World Baking Day is coming up this weekend – Sunday, May 17th. Just a few years old and falling every year on the third Sunday of May, World Baking Day is an initiative that wants to get people baking for their loved ones, friends, and neighbors, as a show of appreciation and gratitude.

A plate of chocolate chip cookies with a book in the background

We’ve selected a range of recipes from the Drop Recipes app that we think suit the spirit of World Baking Day perfectly! First up are our After-School Chocolate Chip cookies. These are ideal for when you want both the classic chocolate chip cookie but also a little somethin’ extra. Here it comes in the form of cacao nibs for a pleasing crunch.

Not enough chocolate for you? Then check out our One-Bowl Brownies. One of our most favorited recipes and rated very easy, they’re a perfect choice for a baker of any skill and come together – prep, baking and all – in under 45 minutes. You can also jazz them up with nuts, orange zest or chocolate chips (or all of the above, why not?!) if you want even more rich chocolatey goodness.

Apple pie with two whole, raw apples to the right

Following on the classic theme, we have a wonderful Apple Pie recipe in the app – try it with our Basic Pie Crust recipe for extra buttery goodness! Both recipes are rated easy and use very basic ingredients. For a non-traditional pie, we love our Walnut and Honey Pie with Sea Salt. Think of it like an update on the traditional Pecan Pie: the same delicious gooeyness and richness, but with a more sophisticated flavor palette. This recipe requires a bit more preparation and time but is absolutely worth it!

Eight pretzel rolls in a parchment paper covered tray with a cloth to the side

If your intended recipient prefers savory options, we’ve got you covered as well: you could whip up a batch of pretzel rolls for a fun twist on the standard bread roll. They’re great for sandwiches!

Also in the realm of new versions of classic favorites, we have an amazing recipe for Parmesan, Polenta and Sage Madeleines. These would be a brilliant addition to a Sunday brunch on World Baking Day itself!

All of these recipes and many more are can be found in the Drop Recipes app, which is available as a free download. For more information on World Baking Day, you can go join the conversations on their Facebook page or on Twitter.

We’d love to see what you get up to as well! As always, you can drop us a line on our Facebook page or Twitter, or tag us in your creations on Instagram. Happy Baking!
